AMVN Offers English Classes for Village Administrators

English education is in high demand in Armenia. AMVN is constantly looking for ways to expand English learning opportunities in all parts of Armenia, in cities as well as villages.

AMVN country director Hasmik Torosyan was contacted by Anush Jhamharyan, an employee of the Khor Virap Municipality. Anush explained the many challenges they face in their work, one of which is the lack of basic English knowledge.

Hasmik worked with AMVN Professional Volunteer English Instructor, Anna Sinanyan, to set up weekly English classes for eleven municipality employees from the villages of Lusakert, Khor Virap, and Pokr Vedi. The forty minute weekly classes began in June and are held via Zoom.

Shushanik Gasparyan, a municipality employee and current AMVN student says,”Every week at 7 p.m. we are looking forward to our English classes. They are so productive. We gain knowledge day by day. Two months ago we didn’t have any expectation that we would be able to say a word in English. Anna Sinanyan is an amazing teacher full of enthusiasm, knowledge and kind attitude.”

The municipality leadership has expressed their sincere thanks to AMVN for this effort. This project is on-going, and in August a new group of municipality employees are set to begin their English classes with AMVN volunteers.
