AMVN Offers Free Armenian Classes for Volunteers

AMVN believes that each of our volunteers should have the opportunity to learn Armenian and expand their Armenian language skills. To encourage this, AMVN offers free Armenian lessons to all of our volunteers.

This has proven to be a very positive experience for volunteers. Armenian classes open a new path of discovery in their lives; allowing them to learn more about their roots and the miraculous culture of Armenia.

Learning Armenian also helps the volunteers when teaching English to beginner groups.

For example, AMVN volunteers Ranin Khouri and Linnea Elias are now able to use some Armenian words and expressions while teaching English to Armenian school children.

The Armenian language teacher, Sona Torosyan, is an AMVN volunteer with 16 years of experience teaching English and Armenian. She currently teaches at the Eurolingua Institute in Yerevan. Her lessons are both fun and productive. She has an unbelievable ability to capture the students’ attention during the weekly 40 minute zoom classes.

Her students are now looking forward to visiting Armenia and teaching there in person. AMVN volunteer Ranin Khouri says, “I want to learn Armenian and speak with my grandmother, Isgouhi, in her native language. I want to visit the country of old churches. I want to support Armenia in some way.”
